During clinical experience, teacher candidates are assigned to one classroom with the same teacher for the entire academic year. During the last 10-days of the fall semester, teacher candidates will have a clinical experience in their “lower” grades. Teacher candidates preparing to become secondary teachers will have a middle school experience and middle grades teacher candidates will have an experience in a 4th or 5th grade classroom. Middle grades teacher candidates will also spend one class period each day with a teacher in their secondary concentration. Below is a chart demonstrating the balanced approach to clinical experiences and also how teacher candidates are immersed in theory (courses) and practices (clinical experiences), simultaneously. Courses days and times are tentative.
